The goal of treatment for advanced cancer is to slow down the progression of the disease as much as possible for as long as possible whilst keeping the side effects of treatment at a level that allows a good quality of life. Most people without cancer don’t understand this and I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been asked when my treatment will be finished.
Life is punctuated with infusions, injections, scans and oncologist’s appointments. Everything else has to be carefully planned around these appointments - holidays, meals out, exercise programmes etc..
Understanding your treatment options and being involved in decisions is essential.
